WHIM W’HIM CONTEMPORARY DANCE CENTER

Whim W’him’s new home transformed an aging church building to create a vibrant dance complex, hosting professional dance rehearsals, as well as dance education and community gatherings.
The former sanctuary was converted to the primary dance studio, with a state-of-the-art sprung dance floor, enhanced acoustics and lighting. The original natural wood ceiling and structure was restored, with compatible acoustic treatment. A second dance studio, meeting room, offices, and dancer’s lounge overlooking the main studio are on the second level. The project was completed in just over a year from property acquisition through grand opening. ORA provided facility assessment prior to property purchase, and coordinated with Seattle permitting reviewers to secure a Master Use Permit approval of the change in use within a single family neighborhood, then worked closely with CAS Construction to complete design and construction in 8 months, with the grand opening occurring in January 2024.
